Industrial Action Information
Strike
Strike action took place on the 20th August and 24th September, and resulted in an improved offer which is being balloted on currently.
Advice regarding industrial action
- You will loose one days pay for each day you are striking - if this is likely to cause hardship you can apply to the Branch for assistance.
- Your pension will be affected if you strike - you will lose the one days pension contribution unless you buy back the service lost (the council will inform you how to do this after the strike - this is likely to cost you around £10). The likely amount you would lose would be small - on the order of £5 a year.
- If you are in your final year of service you are exempt from taking part in action as taking part could have a more significant effect on your pension
- Please respect the law while picketing - you are entitled to peacefully picket your place of work, however you cannot prevent people entering the workplace should they choose to. Guidelines state that there can be a maximum of 6 people picketing each entrance. You should cooperate with any requests from the police.
- If you are asked by management whether you are intending to strike you are not obliged to answer - it is your personal decision which you will make on the morning of the strike day. Management may try to intimidate you regarding strike action by making threats regards to your career or threatening disciplinary action - report all such intimidation to the branch.
