Moray UNISON Condemns Council Cuts

Moray UNISON today criticised the budget passed by the council for 2011/12. The cuts announced will damage services which people across Moray rely upon. Job losses will compound the problems with the local economy caused by uncertainty over the future of the RAF in Moray. Rather than reducing service provision the council should be supporting local communities at this difficult time.

However the council are not entirely to blame for these cuts – efficiency savings being demanded by the Scottish Government are both unrealistic and unachievable. Flawed economic policies being persued by the ConDem coalition in Westminster are damaging areas around the United Kingdom including Scotland. There is A Better Way, one where the poorest and most vulnerable in society are not having to feel the greatest pain as a result of an economic crisis caused by financial institutions.
